My painting practice, from figurative work though abstract, is rooted in my processing of events, media images, personal relationships and documents my emotional reflections, impulses and internal processes.  Through both methodical and loose reference to media imagery, the use of gesture, hatch marks, ascemic text and bold color, I often work intuitively on several pieces at once varying in sizes up to 5 x 5 inches to 44 x 55 inches, rendering subjective reality or layering, revealing and obscuring meaning.  My paintings concretize ephemeral qualities of mind, reactions that dissipate over time. In some senses they are memoir.  Hatch marks have been in my visual language for decades.  They are an active form of counting meditation and represent different meanings as thoughts arise and tallies made. My work is greatly influenced by my early art practice as a photographer, which taught me to see deeply.
